Waste Heat Recovery: Decarbonising City Heat Networks

Network Energy Centre

Services: Design & Witnessing

Project Value: £50,000

Innovate Heat supported the delivery of a major heat network decarbonisation project by providing the Stage 5 detailed design for the integration of a high-temperature heat recovery heat pump within an existing energy centre. The system captures waste heat from the cooling network and upgrades it for reuse within the heating network, significantly reducing reliance on gas-fired boilers and improving the overall efficiency of the energy centre.

Our role included detailed engineering design, production of Stage 5 construction drawings and on-site technical support throughout the installation. Working within an existing live energy centre presented significant space constraints, which were overcome through detailed site surveys and 3D modelling. This enabled much of the existing pipework to be retained, reducing installation costs while delivering a practical, efficient and low-carbon solution.
